Jiska kuchh na gaya- They who lost nothing at all
Jiska ghar nahin toota, woh shayad khush huwa
Mulq bante rahe, log sotae rahe
Ghar ke aangan mein ek lambi diwaar uthi
Log sote rahe, ghar bikharta gaya
He whose house did not divide, perhaps was happy
Nations took birth, they only slept away
In the middle of my home, a long wall was raised
People slept away, my house was scattered.
Usse kya khabar jiska kuchh na gaya
Mulq bante rahe, woh
(sirf) sote rahe
Mere dil ka koi khaas hissa kahin
Uss ghar ke aangan mein shayad
Kahin reh gaya-
What does he know who lost nothing at all
Nations were born, they only slept away
A special part of my heart somewhere
On the other side of the partition
Perhaps got left behind
Kyonki ab bhi kabhi, jab uss aangan mein
Koi rota, aansoon bahata hai yoon
Mera dil uska rona sunn pata nahin
Uski siskin se dil rota hai yahan
For, till now, when on that side of the wall
Someone weeps, and sheds tears, thus
My heart, her/his pain can tolerate it not
Their cries make my heart weep
Main gaati hoon naye tarane magar
Mann apne ko behalane ki koshish sahi
Ke geeton mein shayad gham bhula sakoon (kaash)
Mere apne kahin rotae hi sahi
I may seem to be singing songs new but
It may be a way to humor myself
Perhaps in songs, I’ll forget my own pain (if at all)
My parted loved ones may weep elsewhere
Par unhein kya pata jo khush hote rahe
Geet bunte rahe, jashn hote rahe
Kaun jaane kaun sa mulq azad huwa
Mera to ghar toota, dil bikharta raha
But what do they know who keep on exulting
Singing songs, celebrate all around
Who knows what country became free
My home was split, my heart was torn
Dil ke kitne tukde mere huwe
Mera aangan chhote se chhota huwa
Log sote rahe, mulq banta raha
Mera sab kuchh gaya
Woh khush hote gaye
My heart was broken in so many pieces
My courtyard became smaller from small
As people slept and nations were born
I lost everything, they only became happy
Ab bhi nafratein unn ki kamm na huin
Till now their hatred does not seem to lessen
Apne miltein hain ab, khauf mein ddobae hain sab
My loved ones meet, yet everyone’s fearful
Alam yahan (doonon) ghar ke hisson ka yeh
Both sides of the home are in a state such
Rotein hain sab, lekin doosre ke rone pe yaqeen nahin raha
They both weep, but believe not the other’s tears
Shayad usse dikhawa samajh, jashn karte hain
Thinking it to be a masquerade, celebrate
Bandook, aur laashein bichhate huwe
Spreading guns and bodies all around
Jinka kuchh na gaya unhein kya pata
Mera ghar, mera dil sirf bikharta raha
Kissi ka watan shayad kahin azad ho gaya
Mere ghar sirf andhere mein aur kho gaya
What would they know who lost nothing at all
My heart and my home were both scattered
Someone’s country perhaps somewhere became independent
My heart and my home were both lost in gloom
Alas!
